JOIN US FOR A HIKE!

June 7th, 2025:
The Avon Land Trust and Avon Recreation & Parks Department have organized a vigorous, faster-paced (2.5 mph) hike along the mostly flat, 9-mile, four-loop trail (with opportunity to shorten to 7 ½ miles), starting at the Buckingham Ball Fields. The hike will pass through both Countryside Park and the Huckleberry Hill Recreation Area (past the beaver dam and lodge), and end at the Town’s Foundland Property. We will then return, mostly on different trails, to Buckingham. You will have the option to cut the hike short at this point (7.5 miles) or continue down to the Farmington River on the newest trail in town—the Buckingham Loop! We will then return to the parking lot.
Please note that this is a 9-mile hike , that we recommend it for experienced hikers due to the distance, pace, and duration.
Parking is available at 10 Buckingham Road, adjacent to the Ball Fields. Meet at 8:45 AM for a 9:00 AM start. We will finish the complete hike around 1:00 PM.

Registration opens May 14th, register here: Fun And Vigorous Hike Over 4 Looped Trails On The West Side of Avon - Connecticut Trails Day 2024

As always, wear good hiking shoes and bring sufficient water. We recommend bringing snacks or lunch to keep your energy up. Hiking poles and bug/tick spray are recommended, as it is tick season. It is wise to tuck your pants into your socks and wear tick-repellant clothing. Bring your own first-aid materials and any medications you may require.
In the event of bad weather, an email will be sent by 7:30 AM Saturday with a make-up date.
