Recreation Youth Basketball League for Grades 2-8 - Basketball, Boys Grade 2-3
Recreation Youth Basketball LeagueAgain this year, Avon Recreation and Parks is partnering with neighboring Farmington Valley towns for our Boys and Girls grades 2 – 8 league to expand the size, competition, and network of our league. The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority. Practices: Weeknights starting 12/1/25. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 2). Games: Saturdays 12/6/25 – 2/7/26 (No games on 12/27, 1/3; No home games on 1/17 and 2/14). Dates are subject to change based on the school schedule and number of teams. The number of games played is guaranteed. Teams/Schedule: Days, times, and locations for practices and games will depend on your team assignment. Team assignments and the practice/game schedule will be released no earlier than mid-November. Registration: 8/20 - 10/3- Late registrations may be accepted if space allows but will be subject to a $25 administrative fee.

Recreation Youth Basketball League for Grades 2-8 - Basketball, Girls Grade 7-8
Recreation Youth Basketball LeagueAgain this year, Avon Recreation and Parks is partnering with neighboring Farmington Valley towns for our Boys and Girls grades 2 – 8 league to expand the size, competition, and network of our league. The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority. Practices: Weeknights starting 12/1/25. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 2). Games: Saturdays 12/6/25 – 2/7/26 (No games on 12/27, 1/3; No home games on 1/17 and 2/14). Dates are subject to change based on the school schedule and number of teams. The number of games played is guaranteed. Teams/Schedule: Days, times, and locations for practices and games will depend on your team assignment. Team assignments and the practice/game schedule will be released no earlier than mid-November. Registration: 8/20 - 10/3- Late registrations may be accepted if space allows but will be subject to a $25 administrative fee.

The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority. Practices: Weeknights starting 12/1/25. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 2). Games: Saturdays 12/6/25 – 2/7/26 (No games on 12/27, 1/3; No home games on 1/17 and 2/14). Recreation Youth Basketball LeagueAgain this year, Avon Recreation and Parks is partnering with neighboring Farmington Valley towns for our Boys and Girls grades 2 – 8 league to expand the size, competition, and network of our league. The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority. Practices: Weeknights starting 12/1/25. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 2). Games: Saturdays 12/6/25 – 2/7/26 (No games on 12/27, 1/3; No home games on 1/17 and 2/14). Dates are subject to change based on the school schedule and number of teams. The number of games played is guaranteed. Teams/Schedule: Days, times, and locations for practices and games will depend on your team assignment. Team assignments and the practice/game schedule will be released no earlier than mid-November. Registration: 8/20 - 10/3- Late registrations may be accepted if space allows but will be subject to a $25 administrative fee.

Ski/Snowboard Lessons are optional. If you do not purchase a lesson, your child does not receive any instruction from Ski Sundown staff or our chaperones.

After December 15: No cancellations will be accepted unless due to a medical issue with a doctor's note provided.

Recreation Youth Basketball LeagueAgain this year, Avon Recreation and Parks is partnering with neighboring Farmington Valley towns for our Boys and Girls grades 2 – 8 league to expand the size, competition, and network of our league. The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority. Practices: Weeknights starting 12/1/25. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 2). Games: Saturdays 12/6/25 – 2/7/26 (No games on 12/27, 1/3; No home games on 1/17 and 2/14). Dates are subject to change based on the school schedule and number of teams. The number of games played is guaranteed. Teams/Schedule: Days, times, and locations for practices and games will depend on your team assignment. Team assignments and the practice/game schedule will be released no earlier than mid-November. Registration: 8/20 - 10/3- Late registrations may be accepted if space allows but will be subject to a $25 administrative fee.
- No registrations will be accepted after October 3, 2025 and no refunds will be given without a medical note.-Please note that the wait list may open up depending on how many volunteers commit to coaching.-Note: Avon Travel Basketball partners with Avon Recreation and Parks Youth Basketball League to grow basketball in Avon; if you register for Rec and Travel; and your child is selected for a travel team, Avon Recreation will give you a 100% refund.

Discover Avon's and adjacent towns' hiking trails by joining hike leaders Tom, Norm, and Jeff for a stress-free group hike every month! This hiking group is the perfect opportunity to explore/learn about Avon's parks & hiking trails, advance your hiking skills, and hike with great company. All levels are welcome. Hikes will be led at a social pace, 2-3 hours, 3-4 miles (with one possible exception that allows hikers to shorten the hike), on moderate trails. Co-sponsored by the Avon Land Trust.*Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The hike will begin promptly on the hour.
Participants should wear hiking boots and bring hiking poles and water.Reminder to check for ticks at the end of your hike. Wear light colored clothing, tuck pants into socks, and pass a lint roller around at the end of your hike. Click HERE for more information on how to protect against ticks.
