ADVENTURE CAMP - For students entering Gr. 5-8 in Fall 2025 OPEN TO AVON RESIDENTS ONLY! Join Avon Adventure Camp for a summer of fun in the sun, exploration, and exciting adventure!  Each session will consist of a different field trip location every day, and lunch will be provided once each week. On days when the field trip ends early, campers will be able to swim at Sycamore Hills Pool, play beach volleyball, gaga ball, and other camp games! Participants can sign up for one week at a time or all seven sessions. Sessions fill up fast, so register early! Please note that our Adventure Camp is not a typical summer camp. A $25 fee per camp session will apply for cancellations made up to two weeks before the camp session start date. No refunds will be issued for cancellations within two weeks of the start date unless a doctor's note is provided. For questions about this policy, please contact the Recreation and Parks Office at 860-409-4332 before registering for camp.WAITLIST:- If a session is full, you may add your child to the waitlist by adding the session to your cart and completing the registration (payment will not be collected for the waitlist).- You will only be notified if a spot becomes available. Payment will be required at that time. Food Explorers: Chocolate Week!  for Ages 9 - 12 August 4 - August 8 (Monday - Friday) 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  Countryside Park Building Fee: $214.00     NR Fee: $235.40 Join Food Explorers for a chocolatey week exploring doughs, batters and more. Each day you’ll be making two recipes featuring your favorite ingredient, chocolate! You’ll be making recipes such as: From Scratch Pop-Tarts, Chocolate Fudge Buns, Chocolate Lattice Pies and Chocolate Layer Cakes! All recipes are nut-free and vegetarian but will contain dairy, eggs, and gluten. Track and field events include javelin, discus, shot put, hurdles, long jump, triple jump and various running and relay events. Sensory Swim at Sycamore Hills Pool Dates: Saturday, June 21st, July 12th, and August 9th Time: 10:45 - 11:45 a.m.Fee: Residents: $5.00 per person, per date. Non-Residents: $6.00 per person, per date.*All ages welcome. Registration is required per person, per date regardless of whether you have a pool membership.This swim block is designed to give kids and adults with a disability time to enjoy Sycamore Hills Pool in a sensory-friendly environment. This swim block will have limited capacity to provide a quieter and calmer swim experience. Sensory toys will be provided for use. All children must be accompanied by an adult in the pool. Siblings are welcome. Registration is required for everyone attending.

It is an open play with supervision. You do not have to stay the full 3 hours. All skill levels are welcome!Please wear sneakers and bring a water bottle and a pickleball racquet.

Upcoming Hike Dates:September 6, 2025 - Countryside Park to Collinsville (9am start)September 13, 2025 - "Hike to the Mic" Hazen Drive to Heublein Tower (10am start)October 4, 2025 - Sub Edge Farm along Farmington River (10am start)October 18, 2025 - "Tower Toot" Hazen Drive to Heublein Tower (10am start)*Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The hike will begin promptly on the hour. Fee: No fee, however, registration is required.  Discover Avon's and adjacent towns' hiking trails by joining hike leaders Tom, Norm, and Jeff for a stress-free group hike every month! This hiking group is the perfect opportunity to explore/learn about Avon's parks & hiking trails, advance your hiking skills, and hike with great company.  All levels are welcome.  Hikes will be led at a social pace, 2-3 hours, 3-4 miles (with one possible exception that allows hikers to shorten the hike), on moderate trails. Co-sponsored by the Avon Land Trust. An e-mail notification will be sent by 7:15 AM the day of the hike if a hike is cancelled due to bad weather.   Wear comfortable clothing and sturdy sneakers or hiking boots if you have them. Hiking poles are encouraged. Bring water and a mask (for cold months). Reminder to check for ticks at the end of your hike. Wear light colored clothing, tuck pants into socks, and pass a lint roller around at the end of your hike. Farmington Valley Field Hockey League for Girls Entering Grades 5-6The league will consist of teams from the following participating Towns - Avon, Farmington, Granby, Harwinton, Simsbury and Wethersfield.  This is a recreation travel league, so there are no tryouts, cuts, etc. Limits will only be placed on the number of players on each team based upon a first-come, first-served basis. More players will result in more teams as long as the minimum number for each team can be met. If necessary, and possible, players from other towns may be included once their town registrations are complete. The goal is to get everyone involved. Playing time for each player will be regulated within the one-hour of game time (split into four, 15-min quarters). Girls will play 8 v 8 on half of a regular size field hockey field. Field length goes sideline to sideline – no goalie, no goals (cones will be used).  *Registration closes Wednesday, August 20th, 2025VOLUNTEER HEAD AND ASSISTANT COACHES ARE NEEDED!Each player must bring a field hockey stick, cleats, mouth guard, shin guards, proper eye protection, and their own water bottle (plastic only). A reversible game jersey will be provided. No jewellery allowed during games.~ Teams will practice one a day week and in their respective towns. Practices begin the week of August 25.~ Games are scheduled on Sunday afternoons at 2:30pm, September 7 - October 19. No Games on 10/12. (Makeup day [if needed] will be 10/26).

    This is a medium-intensity hybrid Zumba and cardio drumming class. We will warm up with a 20-30 minute Zumba class and move into 30 minutes of cardio drumming on a stability ball. This class focuses on cardio, toning, coordination, and mindfulness. This class is for all adults looking to have fun while exercising.  Equipment for cardio drumming will be provided.
