Welcome to Mahjong for Beginners!Join the craze! Learn the basics of American Mahjong. It’s fun, challenging and social. We will focus on naming the tiles, reading and understanding the card, categories, choosing a hand and the rules of the game. There will be 4 sessions and it is IMPORTANT to attend all sessions. Dancers will improve flexibility, strength, posture, balance, coordination, and even memory! All experience levels are welcome. Classes can be adapted to the needs and ability of the adult dancer. The program will focus on skills, fundamentals, and gameplay. Players will be grouped into teams within grade-appropriate brackets based on registrations. Rules are designed for participation and clinical skill development for all involved. We will be using certified professional referees for our games. Please note that this is a recreational league and sportsmanship and skill development is our priority.Practices: Weeknights starting 11/30/26. No practices will be held during Winter Vacation (Dec. 23 – Jan. 1). Games: Saturdays 12/5/26 – 2/6/27 (No games on 12/26, 1/2; No home games on 1/16 and 2/13). Dates are subject to change based on the school schedule and number of teams. The number of games played is guaranteed. Teams/Schedule: Days, times, and locations for practices and games will depend on your team assignment. Team assignments and the practice/game schedule will be released no earlier than mid-November. Discover Avon's and adjacent towns' hiking trails by joining hike leaders Tom, Norm, and Jeff for a stress-free group hike every month! This hiking group is the perfect opportunity to explore/learn about Avon's parks & hiking trails, advance your hiking skills, and hike with great company. All levels are welcome. Ages 10+ allowed but anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Hikes will be led at a social pace, 2-3 hours, and participants should be comfortable hiking about 3-4 miles, on moderate trails. Hikes start at 10am unless otherwise stated. Co-sponsored by the Avon Land Trust. *Please arrive 15 minutes before the start time. The hike will begin promptly on the hour.
Participants should wear hiking boots and bring hiking poles and water.Reminder to check for ticks at the end of your hike. Wear light colored clothing, tuck pants into socks, and pass a lint roller around at the end of your hike. Click HERE for more information on how to protect against ticks.
